my first grader

it's so weird having a "big kid" now. i'm so proud of Ryan. he's enjoying being a 1st grader. he loves his teacher - Mrs. Faria. he loves his classwork (he's even writing better!). he things all of the neat experiences in 1st grade are absolutely the best and make 1st grade so special! (he has 2 days of PE, 1 media center day, 1 music day and 1 science day.)

either Stan or i will drop Ry off in the morning right before Kiana. he still gets walked to the playground. hopefully soon, he'll be dropped off at the curbside drop-off. he's in school all day (8:35am - 2:40pm) then goes to Kids First after school (he stays til 3:30pm). he really enjoys Kids First. for $75 per month, Ry gets a snack, tutoring from Logan students and playtime if he finishes his homework. we're going to try it out for a month to see if it's worth it.

i see big changes in Ryan's attitude since he became a 1st grader. he's so responsible! he is very conscious about getting his work done so he can enjoy his "choice time" (a term coined by Mrs. Faria that Ry uses at home). his influence on Kia and Kaili is a positive one... well, for the most part... :)

oh! you'll love this! Ry is trying to buy lunch for the next month, too... every day, there is something on the menu that he likes. hopefully, the food that he buys is good enough for him to enjoy. lunch is $2.00 per day - this includes his favorite chocolate milk. i bought him a lunch card for $20 to start. i can just add to it. pretty cool!

personally, i'm enjoying this experience so much more than i did with his kindergarten. aside from not getting hassled constantly about Ry being socially immature or ADHD. Mrs. Faria is supportive, enthusiastic and a great teacher. her teaching style is very direct. she doesn't take crap from anyone. the kids learned that immediately. :) she is great about breaking things down for the kids so that each child is working at his own pace. the class is very bright so everyone is either up to par or above.

overall, i think Ry is going to have a great year... :)
